Our mission and core values

Learning English as a second language can be challenging, but it does not have to be boring.

Welcome to LearnEnglishABC — your gateway to learning English

LearnEnglishABC is evolving. While we move to a subscription model, we remain committed to keeping English within reach of everyone: free access to books and music continues, and a tiered membership keeps the rest affordable for students worldwide.

This platform is for students with some foundational English, from third grade to the first year of college. On the site and on our YouTube channel, we aim to make learning English fun and engaging — and we want every student to learn at their own pace.

Having taught and tutored friends from many linguistic backgrounds, we understand how differently people learn. As a certified TEFL instructor, I have learned there is no one-size-fits-all approach — which is why the resources here come at several levels.

How we help you learn

A multifaceted approach

Repetition and practice

Just as we learn our first language through repetition, we encourage consistent practice to master English.

Immersion

Learning by interacting with native speakers is invaluable. Immersion works best in an English-speaking country, but an online platform can simulate a good deal of it.

Self-paced learning

Use our resources and videos to progress at your own speed — nobody is waiting for you to catch up.

Special tips

Two that actually help

Fun with technology

Did you know Google phones and iPhones can tell jokes? These G-rated jokes are a good way to listen to and practice English in a light-hearted way.

For TOEFL and IBEC students

Reading travel stories is highly recommended. They are pleasant and engaging, and they introduce vocabulary you would not meet in everyday conversation.

Core values

Our driving force

A personal story

While learning Thai, I translated a 3rd-grade book into English. That exercise expanded my vocabulary and deepened my understanding of Thai grammar — proof that translating and immersing yourself in a language is both educational and rewarding.

Why vocabulary matters

By age six, most children have a vocabulary of around 2,600 words. By age twelve, that number grows to 50,000. Building a robust vocabulary is what mastering English rests on.

Our dedication to growth

LearnEnglishABC is a labour of love. Building the site took over 1,000 hours, and the content itself more than 4,000. We keep updating and expanding it, because learning — and teaching — is always evolving.

Start your journey today

With LearnEnglishABC you have resources for whatever you are aiming at, whether that is an exam or simply being understood. Let's make learning English fun, effective and within reach — together.

How we're organized

The site is divided into sections that follow how people actually learn a language. From vocabulary and grammar resources through to books and videos, you will find what you need to get better at English — and you can move between them in any order that suits you.
